Turntables for All, But Especially Short People

Turntables are the underrated heavy lifters of the kitchen, and even under the bathroom sink. I became a fan of turntables when I realized how they can help me NOT to have to grab a stool to reach something on a higher shelf. If I can fit a turntable in there, I can spin it so the item is delivered out of the depths of the cabinet, right to the front of the shelf.

(Pictured above is the clear acrylic turntable that House Peace puts into homes we organize here in Birmingham. If you’re local to Birmingham, we’d love to sell those to you as well, though we are not currently shipping. Drop me an email at tara@housepeace.net if you want to order some.)

There are tons of different shapes and sizes for different needs. Below is a list of three specific uses, and an ideal turntable to go with that particular application!

  1. Large corner cabinet turntable : I have this big one in my awkward upper corner cabinet in my own kitchen. I say “awkward” because most people try to fit large casseroles, or stacks of dishes in these corner cabinets. I prefer to make them un-awkward by designating them for medicine/vitamins, office supplies, and other smaller things. The turn table helps make that possible and utilizes the area waaaay in the back of the cabinet. (The one I linked to is 18” and works in my cabinet, but be sure to measure yours before ordering!)

  2. Undersink cabinet : These are awesome in the bathroom for blowdryers and hair products that tend to want to fall over.

  3. Pantry turntable : I like to separate my decanted baking items like baking soda, salt, corn starch and so on and put them into a turntable on a higher shelf. The Amazon one I Iinked is very similar to the ones we put into homes that House Peace organizes in person.

BONUS if you want to go next level with a built-in lazy susan cabinet : these wedge-shaped bins are great for using your existing corner cabinet turntable for smaller items like snacks, appliance accessories, small baking items. Again, be sure to measure, but you could put as many of those suckers in your cabinet as possible (maybe six? eight?), fill them with breakfast bars/small bags of chips/gummies/etc, label them, and then your kid-friendliness cred will sky rocket.
